I would suggest Trupanion also. It’s great to enroll as a puppy because you’ll make sure that every possible condition is covered and it usually costs less to enroll the pet when it is younger.
Trupanion is good because it doesn’t have annual limits. For example, if your pet has 3 expensive medical conditions in its whole life, and they all happen the same year, some companies won’t cover it all because they limit the amount of money you can spend in a year. With Trupanion, you don’t have to worry about that.
I would go with one of the independent companies, not Banfield. The reason is that it only applies @ their hospitals. What if there is an emergency or you want to change vets, then you’ve paid in all that money for nothing.
VPI is by far the best do you live in ny? Aspca covers no where near as much as vpi. Vpi also offers international services and extensive cancer care for only a few extra dollars which means they will be helped with cancer for life not just for 6 months like every other one does. I have researched all this for about a whole year and found vpi to be the best the offer 5% of any additioanl pets and are one of the only ones that does exotic pets so if you get a rabbot bird lizard etc they have policies for them too. I have an african grey parrot which have a 70 to 100 life span and i have 2 dogs plus bunnies i want something that can cover all my animals no matter when i get them.
Check this one too. This is what I would use if I do decide to purchase pet health insurance.

I just started with VPI and haven’t used it yet.
I like Embrace–see the article below. You can customize your own options, genetic and heriditary stuff is not precluded, etc, etc.
Best wishes!
I understand your concern in wanting to make a good decision about pet insurance.
I found a site that compares several of the top pet insurance companies.
It’s at:

They also give you a free pet insurance guide, which I found useful.
