Right now, there is no infrastructure set up in Haiti to accept anything other than cash donations. In a couple of months things will be in place to get the clothing to those who need them. Until then, if you want to help, you can make cash donations through the Red Cross, Samaritan’s Purse, or Unicef.

I coordinate donations and volunteers for a disaster relief organization here in the USA.
PLEASE– do not collect clothing or other items unless an organization working in Haiti specifically requests it! You may not feel that giving money (especially if it’s a pretty small amount) reflects the caring hearts of you and your neighbors, but it can make a HUGE difference. Used clothing has to be cleaned, sorted, transported and stored somewhere. The transport planes need to dedicate their precious space to move medicines and life saving equipment, water purification supplies and foodstuffs. (It’s 90 degrees during the day in Haiti, too, so nobody is freezing like we are up north.)
Get your friends together and hold a garage sale with all your donations and send the money to the Red Cross or choose one of the great international relief organizations to support. They’re there in person and will know exactly what the victims need in terms of blankets or clothing and they can use your dollars to buy things locally that won’t have to be shipped long distance. Also, they’ll do their best to keep in touch with donors like you with letters and web postings to let you know how they were able to help ease the suffering with your dollars, too.
It’s so wonderful that you want to help. Do not be embarrassed to send $5 on a paypal or credit card or money order. It WILL make a difference. God bless you and don’t underestimate the power of prayer, if that is a power in your own life, too!
There are some organizations sending clothes & other supplies to Haiti.
Fashion Delivers (email carla@fashiondelivers.com or call 212-629-6700)
Foot Solutions is taking gently used shoes. Go to http://www.footsolutions.com or call 1-888-Fit-Foot
Shoes2Share is collecting shoes in addition to other supplies. Website http://www.shoes2share.com
FYI to those who think *all people* can donate $$$: everyone needs clothing, especially the people in Haiti.
Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. as mentioned clothing is not the # 1 priority. however anything helps. if i were you i would probably donate money instead.
