URGENT! PLEASE HELP! I need to know about lung transplants…?
My stepfather’s son got into a bad car accident last week. He was in an induced coma, and he was doing OK…but all of a sudden, his lungs failed. He is being kept alive on life support. Is it possible to live with only one lung? Is it possible to donate one of your lungs as a living donor? What are my options? What are the drawbacks? If this is possible, I want to try to throw the option of a living organ donation onto the table, or he might die. Someone tell me this information, please.

I have heard of people living off of one lung, but your best bet would be to talk to the doctor at the hospital. He/She im sure would be more then glad to tell you everything you need to know… Hope he gets well soon!
Although still pretty rare, it is possible to donate a lobe of your lung to another person in need. You’ll only know if it’s possible in this case if you ask the doctors at the hospital (and if needed, get a second opinion elsewhere).
