The problem is that problems in other countries are more immediate. Homeless or hungry people in this country have alternatives. Those in the third world do not. But, I think that we can actually do both. If you've ever travelled outside of the country, you'll see that the poorest american here still lives better than most of the world (in terms of food, material things etc.) It is rare for someone to really starve to death here for instance. Even if you go to bed hungry because you are homeless - someone will usually give you food or something before you get to the point of starvation. But I agree that it is very important for us to take care or our own Americans as well and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I think it is a crying shame the way that we treat veterans for example; I believe that no child here should ever be hungry or not have access to health care or a decent education. We are rich by comparison of some in third world countries. I donate to my own (canadians) and I have adopted a child through world vision in Guatemala.
