How is tithing to the church any different than tithing to a king?
I’m curious, how is tithing to your church any different than tithing to a king?
It seems to me that in both cases you are making a pointless sacrifice of money that could potentially jeopardize your own financial situation.
At least in the case of the king the king may actually use the money, although not necessarily for good means.
In the case of God aren’t you basically just giving up money that he can’t possibly use?
And before you say it goes to the good of the church, your money could go to far better use at a homeless shelter or to feed children in third world countries that need it could it not?

Belly aching again.
If you do not want to tithe do not do it.
But do not try to convince the rest of us that know the truth and you do not.
We love to tithe you do not.
You will miss your blessing because of your selfish ways.
so never tithe and never be happy.
it is as simple as that. you are a fool because God gives you the tithe to begin with and you hold on to it like 10 percent will break you.
selfish and a tight wad.
I think you should allow the poor little bastardd to believe whatever he would like, as not everyone is correct in their beliefs, and everyone has a right to speech.
Encourage his thoughts with proper literature.
Are you still paying taxes to your king? where do you live? But you are right on the last part.
Churches do outreaches into the community to help the poor, needy and down trodden. They also support missionaries who travel the world to help poor and needy people in third world countries. I don’t see that as a pointless waste of money. God bless.
Back during the Tudor era in England everyone thought that King Henry VIII, one of the cruelest men of the medieval times, was a holy man more powerful than the pope and that he was the only voice of God.
He took their money, destroyed their churches and hung thousands upon thousands of people.
And, still, he was ‘holy’.
Giving a tithing to whomever the people are made to believe it goes to seems appropriate to them. Push threats and fear toward a group of people and you can make them think anything.
That is why the real Christian religion does not take tithes.

Well, Crossroads, the church I’ve mostly attended this year, is spending $25,000 on a house at Streetlight, so that underage rape victims and victims of Human Trafficking can get the counseling, schooling, and protection they need… which is not something the government is doing… and I’m best friends with the facilitator of this, and spend all or Saturday going to streetlight and seeing the money actually was going there, and the house was already built, and all of that. The government refuses to pay, but 4 churches are coming together to go it.
That’s the difference… I mean, the king did often use that money to help the people… taxes pay for roads and schools and stuff, which is good.
So… heh, that’s it. Now, it is important to see where your money does go, and if you do not trust the church, don’t pay. Donate the money to a charity or fundraiser of your choice, or switch to a church that has proven they are using the money for good.
Churches have a responsibility to causes like assisting the homeless, opening abused women clinics, feeding starving kids… and if they DON’T? Then they’re not good churches, and you shouldn’t attend them, simple as that.
1) How is tithing to the church any different than tithing to a king?
Normally, tithing to a church is voluntary, while tithing to a king is rarely so.
2) In the case of God aren’t you basically just giving up money that he can’t possibly use?
Ideally, the church uses the money in furtherance of its service to God. We see similar examples in Acts in the Bible – though I don’t recall tithing particularly (donations, but not tithes).
3) And before you say it goes to the good of the church, your money could go to far better use at a homeless shelter or to feed children in third world countries that need it could it not?
What makes you think that our churches do not do such things?

Tithing to a King is taxes and it pays for your roads, Tithing to the Church pays for the salary of the Pastor who spends many hours researching Gods word to share with you weekly so as to encourage you and help you see the truth in Scripture. also goes to missions around the world, disaster relief centers, Orphanages in needed places., ….God also says .Pay Caesar what is due Caesar {Government} and Pay God what is due God. Beside all of our money belongs to God any way…we are just stewards in handling it correctly. God says fill my storehouses. I follow God, not my own knowledge of what is truth and what is evil and lies. God is way more Intelligent, and know the beginning from the end. I think this is a good idea and beside He promised he would Bless us 10 fold for tithing to Him.I have been tithing for 30 yrs and He has always Blessed me. He Loves us. why not Love Him back, and obey Him? We have all to gain. What is better in Love and Life but Eternal Life?
When a king collects money from people, its a tax.
When a church collects tithes, it’s a crime, for they are not permitted by Scripture to do so.
