Nonprofit Organizations, Increased Security

In a recent statement by the ASAE, or the American Society of Association Executives that there may be a much stricter watch on the nonprofit sector, as the federal government may look for ways to find funds and possibly tax them. For the newer organizations being formed any nonprofit development committee needs to be aware of this and be prepared accordingly.

Although, many non-profit organizations and charities operate according to strict guidelines and many, if not most, are ethical and honest when it comes to where the money donated actually goes, some are not so honest.  We have yet to see a scandal such as the likes of Enron within the nonprofit community, but there is the potential for such abuses.

In the recent crisis in Haiti with the devastating earthquake aftermath, one must be cautious as to whom to donate money to and how the relief will be implemented.

As with any charity, most have a track record which is very reliable, and I myself continually give donations to charities such as Doris Day Animal League, Native American Relief Council, Heifer Foundation and so forth.
