From the Initiatory:

"Inasmuch as you do not defile it, but are true and faithful to your covenants, it [i.e., the garment] will be a shield and a protection to you against the power of the destroyer until you have finished your work on the earth."

Many Mormons deny (with good reason) that the special underwear they receive as part of the temple endowment provides them with any physical protection. They insist the protection is spiritual. But then why is it OK to take the garment off for athletics?

Organizations like the National Endowment for the arts are dedicated to providing grants for aspiring artists, writers and performers. There has, in the past, been several controversies such as subject matter that has influenced the public opinion of this organization. Regardless, what do you believe? Is the government doing a good or bad thing by helping these artists reach their goals? What does the freedom of expression mean for artists and mean to you?
