Is it legal to get phone numbers off the internet or from a marketing firm and call people in the US to solicit donations for a non-profit organization registered in the US?

If there are any US laws that prohibit such activities, could you please provide some detail about them?

i have a problem, my friends have recently started collecting money for charity and then keeping it for themselves and i didn’t want to stand out so i’ve been going along with it and helping them however after collecting the money i actually do donate all of my share to the charity so in that sense i am being honest, but thats only 25% of it and my friends all keep theirs… should i feel bad that i am sort of helping them? i feel really bad but i mean all of my money i really am giving to charity so why should i feel bad for what they’re doing?
