I just brought a new car and i do not need my old car anymore so i am considering donating my car to a nonprofit charity. what my concern is how would that work as far as my taxes go? would i claim it and itemize it as a deduction? would i get the blue book value of my car?

Me and my diabled mother are very poor and we are katrina victims after katrina we moved in with a friend but he isnt letting us go anywhere and we want to leave but we are unable without a car my mother is very sick and they have just diagnosed me as disabled as well we are in need desperate need of a car…if there is anyone who would donate a car to us or know how we can get one it would help us out alot please…help us anyway you can??
