A financial company has approached me wanting money up front and they state they can collect monies due to me.?

They say that mortgage endowments are now at a shortfall and they can recover those monies. They want money up front though - should I pay them?

Sounds like a scam. First, what are "mortgage endowments"? Never heard of such a thing. And why are you due to receive them?
In general, any scheme that requires payment in advance is likely to be scam. For something legitimate they should be willing to take a percentage out of what they get for you.
